Verbes réguliers / Verbes irréguliers
La plupart des verbes anglais se conjuguent suivant des modèles réguliers avec 4 formes :
  • L’infinitif et le présent : play, apply, climb

    We play piano
    I apply for a job

  • Le présent à la 3e personne (avec ajout d’un “s” ou transformation d’un “y” en “ies”): plays, applies, climbs

    He plays piano
    My sister likes him

  • Le prétérit (avec ajout de “-ed” ou transformation du “y” en “ied”: played, applied, climbed

    We played piano
    I climbed the mountain

  • Le participe présent ou gérondif (avec ajout de –ing) : playing, applying, climbing

    We are playing piano
    He is applying for a job

Cependant, il existe des verbes dits « irréguliers », qui ont des formes particulières pour le prétérit et le participe passé.
